Malawi 72% – Sweetened with Coconut Sugar
Opening our doors to speciality cacao from around the globe, Malawi has become an exciting new adventure for us. When George travelled there for several projects, we seized the chance to connect with Kwanza Cocoa, Malawi’s pioneering bean-to-bar chocolate maker.
Founded in 2021 by Wezi Mzumara, Kwanza Cocoa began on her family farm in Luwazi, Nkhata Bay, and has since grown into a thriving operation with thousands of cacao trees and a network of local outgrower farmers. From their base in Mzuzu, they are redefining Malawian chocolate by keeping the entire journey—from tree to bar—rooted in Malawi. Their mission is simple but powerful: build value at origin, empower smallholder farmers, and celebrate Malawian flavour.
From the beans George brought back, we crafted a 72% dark chocolate bar sweetened only with coconut sugar. This bar shines with woody depth, cinnamon spice, and salty liquorice, alongside gentle hints of banana—a flavour profile that captures the essence of Malawi’s terroir.
By working with Kwanza Cocoa, we’re proud to support a movement that is reshaping the African chocolate story: sustainable, inclusive, and full of creativity.
